wear a full face helmet (bugs and road rash suck)
 never give people wearing shorts a ride
keep first and second finger on the front brake at all times (lots of front brake, easy on the back-----practice panic stops)
 never ever trust any driver on a cell phone
be mentally prepared that someday you will go down
you may want to spend a little more for a 1990's bike, with a bike that old, things like rotting fuel lines, stuck bolts, leaking fork seals may cost you more the long run.
