Road trip to pick up a classic VW Bug
Original Message   May 3, 2005 4:48 pm
Well guys,
I covet your prayers as I go away late tonight.....I'm taking a bus down to Philadelphia (an all night trip) to go pick up a nice classic VW Bug that I bought on ebay.
I've been watching them for months now, and am actually looking for two of them.
This one is a nice 1974 beetle with only 22,000 original miles.

I dread the bus trip, and I pray the drive back home goes well.
The bus goes to NYC, then to Philly.  I bought some cheap black earbuds so it does not look like I have an ipod. I'll take some benedryl to help me sleep all the way down.

This bug will be for my youngest son, who starts driving this month. My wife also wants a VW bug again, but she is pickier.....wants a mint classic Bug and it has to be a 1967 or earlier.

I'm excited about having a Bug again, but will feel better when it and I are back home.

Good luck Frank,
You don't need to be told I'm sure. Rust,Rust,Rust. Careful.
What did you get? Beetle, Super Beetle, Special Edition. I think they made a buch of SEs that year. Sun bugs, and the pastel colored ones. What did you get?

Thanks guys,
Rob, it's a gold sunbug with the factory sun roof......oh yes, I know about VW rust, heater channels, battery pans and floorpans, etc.  I'm pretty sure this one is good. Engine is nice too, chromed, etc.

I've always enjoyed bugs...they turn an eye, easy to work on, (no computers, etc),parts easy to get and they hold their value great.  Good gas mileage too.

Patrick, the bug is actually in a place called Deptford, NJ.  The owner is picking me up at the Philly bus station.  Leaving in an hour....
Thanks,
Frank D.

Kind of cordiroy<sp> velour seats. I think Super Beetle. A lot had AC. Curved windsheild, MacPherson struts, stuff like that. People don't even think about the stuff carmakers used to do, like power the windsheild washers with the air in the spare tire. Now a days it better have PW/PS/AC, power steering, everything or it doesn't even get a look.

Where in the heck is Frank?

Maybe he took a "shortcut"?

Philly to Buffalo, how long does that take? !0 hours?

I guess I would take the NJ turnpike to the PA turnpike to 81? Does NY have an east-west turnpike? I think I was on the NY turnpike in Albany, but maybe it was Utica. Whatever.

Where the heck is Frank? Don't those Apple guys know what a Blackberry is?

Sorry to worry you guys..........I got back around 6:30pm....
Yup Rob, took the NJ Turnpike to the PA Turnpike and up 81 to 17 to home.
Jane and Eric are out driving it around now.....
The bug is great, but it is not the smooth ride that my T & C is........

Riding in a Grayhound bus from 11:30pm to 9:10 am is not the prefered way to travel.
It's good to be home......
