Does anyone own a Chevy Colorado or GMC Canyon?

Which engine, tranny?

Like it ....Hate it.... ?

I just move kids and an occasional dead deer so I don't need the Dodge Dakota. Seems like a nice truck though.

I could pobably get a new Dakota for the same price as a year old Colorado? That makes it a tough decision.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Wish I had more $-2,000 below invoice GM certificates for ya, that way you could get the Silverado fullsize 4 door, or the 2500HD, allison transmission Silverado.  That's what I have, and I absolutely torture it, and it just laughs at the abuse.  The trannies in the regular Silverado, Tahoe, burban, are notorious for 50K or so failure.  The allison will run 250K E-Z.   You dont have many options w/ drivetrain here, either manual, or 4 speed auto w/ OD.  Engine,  

175-hp Vortec 2800 I-4

OR

220-hp Vortec 3500 I-5 , definately go w/ the 3500!!

Would you consider say a 2004 model Silverado, say 1500HD model???  You can pronbably p/u a dealer left over w/ just a few miles on it for 26-28 ish.  With, Vortec 6000 V8 SFI, (300 HP engine), 3.73 rear end, ho ho ho!!!!!

I agree, the Silverado is a gret truck...but I really don't need anything that big. I'm getting rid of a Ford Explorer V-8..which is starting to give up the ghost at 8 yrs.

I like the gas milage of the Colorado or Canyon and the size is right for my needs...because 90% of the time it will just carry me.

I think GM is trying to compete with the Aisian trucks with these vehicles. I drove a Dakota today and it was much heavier than the Colorado.

Bill, no doubt man, they will  flat run! 

I understand Dan.  If givin up the guzzler effect, yeah the Colorado should run just fine.  I would def go w/ the I5 engine though.  They tout this inline 5 to be gas concious like a 4, but, has the HP of higher out put 6's.  220 HP outa of it, should be plenty of pep for the ligfhter weight truck.  Let us know which way ya go.

Hey what about that new Honda that looks like the Avalanche??Not even sure what they go for, but they look cool.

Believe me...I don't expect this to compare to a Dakota or larger truck.

I believe the Colorado is geared to folks like me that do not tow...but move people and not a bed of rocks; and make trips to the lumber yard occasionaly.

If I used a truck to earn a living I would get the Dakota with a V-8 . It is a solid machine and with all the rebates and discounts a great value. The Dakota and the Colarado are two totally different vehicles.

95 % of the time the truck would just have to move me, back and forth to work in every type of weather on back roads...pick up the kids at school a couple of times a week and if I am lucky ...transport a dead deer in November. All the while getting good gas milage.

I'm working on a deal for a 2004 Colorado Crew Cab with under 15000 miles. 3.5 5 cylinder, automatic. 

I'll tell you what I think after I drive it next week.

I'll second that.

Just brought home a brand spanking new Chevy Colorado Z85 LS  4x4 Extended Cab. I actually found one with a standard transmission. She picks up nice on the highway and is listed as getting 19/24 MPG.

The other dealer sold the '04 Crew Cab before my dealer could get his hands on it.

This is the first new vehicle I've bought for myself since my 1987 Ford EXP GT.
