Christmas Dinner?
Original Message   Dec 26, 2004 4:55 am
What did you all have?

Mmm, crab legs...big 'uns! (stick-o-butter for scale)

...and had smoked salmon for breakfast!

God, I love Alaska!

Hi Hickster. We have our family fest on Christmas eve. We started with Jumbo shrimp and lots of it. We followed that up with exactly what you have pictured. King crab legs. It was just nice to have everyone at the dinner table at once. I work 3rd shift as a warehouse supervisor and am usually sleeping during the dinner hour. My older son is home from college, so it was just nice to have the whole family together and good conversation after dinner. It was one of those "hard to get up and out of the chair after the dinner" meals. LOL

King Crab legs are my favorite. My wife says any thing to get butter to my mouth is my favorite.

About the salmon, my friends from Alaska tell me to only eat Copper River salmon, because it is the only wild salmon we can get. What do you think Hickster?

Hickster, looks absolutely delectible. My son can eat crab legs until the cows come home. Hmmm, wonder how he came about liking those?

I was drooling so much over those crab legs, I had to go get a bib before I could post.... Those are some huge crab legs.....

How plentiful is lobster over there and how pricey?

As far as salmon goes, There is a lot of "farm raised" salmon on the market now-a-days. What you want is "wild Alaska salmon". The Copper River produces the most out of all the wild commercial fisheries. There is also the kenai, Kasilof, and many, many others. Also, many of the fisheries are stocked. The fish are still wild as they mature out in the ocean with the native stock. The Copper river has the largest all native run as I understand.

I'm no salmon expert, but I take my share. I like dip-netting down on the Kenai. I'm going to try to get over to the Copper this year.

"Just say no" to farm raised salmon.

Lobster? You can buy it, it's just expensive. I got the crab for about $11 per pound (which is a good price for that size).

My cousin lived in Alaska for, hmm, 15 years? or so as both a Federal Park Ranger and a Alaskan Park Ranger, he is a Air Marshal now, well anyway he stayed with my family and I about 4 years ago now and he had those same crab legs shipped from Alaska to himself while he was with us. We had them on Christmas. I'll be honest I did not think I would like them at all and they were unbelievably good. Great memories.

I have allways loved crab. But because I am not a fisherman, I don't get them free. And the resteraunts want a arm and a leg for them to eat there. Haggens foods, also cost alot to buy crab there. Well, I am glad you liked them. I also like Lobster Salmon, Trout, Tuna. Oh...and I forgot. I like clams too!

I agree....taunting us with pictures and everything!

What's that Hickster? We're all invited over to your house for all-you-can-eat crab legs? Heck...since I'm from the dairy state, I'll even bring the butter .... I think I foresee a bus ride ahead....
