ever heard of kirby?

We had some people come by trying to sell us a "Kirby Cleaning System". It had the upright vaccum with a shampoo attachment. Does anyone know anything about the company or the vaccum? They are asking $1800 then when you don't accept they lower the price to $1150. Seems kind of weird to me.

I purchased a Kirby vacuum years ago and it really lasted about 20 year however, I would never buy another one because the attachments are very difficult to put on and you have to put the belt on and off every time you use it. I spent more time sitting on the floor fixing the belt than I wanted to. When it wore out I purchased an electrolux which has been in the shop three times already. I think I will get a Fantom but now until I do a lot of research first.

Awkward Kirby

Hi Linda. You're very right about the Kirby being less than user friendly. The machine is great for carpet cleaning but when it comes to attaching the hose to simulate a canister, forget it. The thought of fooling around changing the head would deter me from wanting to use that feature. The belts do wear quite fast also.

I would recommend looking at the quality German made SEBO X-1 or X-2. This machine is very easy to use, lays flat to get under beds, and has a belt that you'll never have to replace. The hose attachment is ready to use at anytime, without fumbling around like you have to with a Kirby. Check them out at http://www.ristenbatt.com. These people are great to deal with and have lots of detailed information on these and many other machines. I purchased the Miele S658i from them with no problems. To go directly to the Sebo data on their site, click on the link below. Good luck.

The reason the belt wears out is because you are lowering the head down to the floor it wears out the belt faster i have worked with kirby's for many years and i know all the models inside and out all you have to do with the kirby is twist the belt holder twist the lock pull it off and attach the hose not hard at all some people do not want to bother with it because they are lazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It has nothting to do with laziness. The machine is awkward and difficult to deal with.
