best vacuum for hard floors

Could someone please help me find a good vacuum for hard wood floors,
and area rugs. Now I live in a house with no wall to wall carpeting.
I have had canister vacuums in the past, would like to have an upright
if you can recommend a good one
Thanks!!

I would recommend the fantom cyclone, it is a great vacuum cleaner and works great on area rugs, it has a swith for carpet and hard floors, and also the handle converts into a hose to vacuum furnitre and many other things, plus it has a hepa filter and is bagless

SEBO

I would recommend looking at the German made SEBO X-1 upright. Check them out at http://www.ristenbatt.com. Unlike any Fantom machine, this machine will last for many years. You'll never have to replace it's cogged belt, and it is one of the few machines that the dust bag does not leak dust. It self adjusts itself to any type of carpet thickness, including bare floors. It has a convenient hose/wand attachement along with attachments. The machine is almost foolproof and will even shut itself off if the bag becomes full or blocked air flow occurs. This machines costs around $450.00 unlike the Fantom which is much cheaper and I mean cheap. You'll have nothing but trouble with any Fantom product. I guess it depends on how long you want your new vacuum to last and what you are willing to pay for quality.

Mark,
Listen to Bruce. As far as the Fantom is concerned: Been there, done that! And learned my lesson. My Fantom Cyclone was a nightmare. Can't say I have experience with the Sebo, but I've gathered good reviews on them. I would like to know how much they weigh. Even if the Fantom was a good vacuum, it weighs too much (25lbs. I think?) to be rolling around on wood floors (in my opinion.) I suggest to do a search on Fantom in this Forum and do some reading. Good Luck.

Hi Susan. The SEBO X-1 upright weighs in at 19.5 pounds and it's very easy to maneuver. Check it out at the link below. And no, I'm not a salesman nor am associated with any vacuum manufacturer. Good luck.
