New England Blizzard
Original Message   Jan 21, 2005 4:01 pm
NWS Will be issuing Blizzard Watches and Warning shortly. Accuweather has upped snowfall potential for Southern New England areas to 12-24", with possible 60 mph gusts, and thunder and lightning.

Day after tomarrow?? Maybe.........

Will see , but it looks good.

How many UCONN fans out there?   The  question is will you go out in the snow to see Connedticut (UCONN ) women and men play basketball on Saturday?  I will be going to see the women play at the Harford Civic Center @ 2:00 PM,  but I will have to pass on the men's game a 9:00 PM.  I have around a 50 mile drive from Milford and I drive a Dodge Dakota 4x4 Quad Cab so I should be fine - I hope.

The forecasts are all over the place for New Jersey.  Anywhere from 6 - 20".

Does anyone have a reliable source?  NOAA shows 10-15" for the area.

Cuz Vin - Big UCONN fan here (plus Soxs and Pats).   Hopefully, our luck won't run out with the Pittsurgh teams (Panthers and Steelers) this weekend.     The game at Storrs will be during a blizzard.   I am assuming it will still be played.  There will probably only be students in the stands who can walk home after.   Got the Ariens 1024 Pro ready for action.

Yikes!    You're right.   I checked the National Weather service site after reading this thread.  For my area southwest of Boston:

"Saturday Night...Snow...Heavy at Times. Snow accumulation of 10 to 18 inches by daybreak. Very windy with blizzard conditions possible. Lows around 20. Northeast winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph...Increasing to north 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 50 mph after midnight.

Sunday...Snow likely in the morning...Then becoming partly cloudy. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet. Very windy with highs in the lower 20s. North winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 50 mph."

I'll have to go gas up the blower.   -Bob

Okay, so now it's time for my  question.........  Should I wait until the storm's over-or go out in the middle of it ?  I have a Toro 1128OE that I bought last year.  I'm retired, and have all the time in the world to clear my driveway, but I'm wondering if the Toro will handle it if I wait until the storm is over.   I live south of Boston, five miles south of  Gillette stadium, home of the New England Patriots.         I'm leaning toward waiting, just because it's supposed to be so darn cold and windy.

I don't know about others, but I'm bringing the snowblower up near the house and covering it with a tarp. The shed is about 100 feet from the back door, and I don't relish the idea of trudging through deep snow and shoveling to clear the doors. Plus, if It's hard starting, I only have to use the 20 foot cord for the electric start.

im not to far from you. im in needham. i plan on waiting for the storm to stop then go out and tackle the beast. no reason to keep going in and out. the only thing i might go for a couple of times will be where the snowplows build up in front of the driveway.

No, unfortunately the storm shifted to the north.  They predicted 4-8 for us, we got 2.  High winds coming in later to create a white out, 30-40 mph.

I was supposed to take my youngest toboganing north to Cleveland, but that was cancelled due to the weather there.  They are suppossed to get upto 12 in along with the high winds and cold temps tomorrow.  Not good for a 5 year old (let alone a 45 year old)

MountainMan, what is thundersnow?  Here is the forecast for here:

The center of the clipper is moving quickly into northern Pennsylvania, providing plenty of moisture across the entire state. We are now seeing more snow showers developing in the Chesapeake Bay area. This is a sign of a strengthening coastal storm that will develop this afternoon. This will set up an easterly fetch, pushing more moisture onto the east coast. Eastern Pennsylvania, the Delmarva Peninsula, and New Jersey are still set to receive substantial snowfall this afternoon. Central Pennsylvania could see 8-14" by tomorrow morning. In far western PA accumulations will be lower, ranging from 5-9" in the Pittsburgh area. Winds will increase from the north overnight to set the stage for a blustery Sunday. Winds sustained at 20-30 mph with gusts in the 40's will cause blowing snow and drifting, not to mention sub-zero wind chills.

I have been out with the "Orange Crunch" just a little to try it out.  It's just the best machine for me.  I love it.

MM, you guys are going to get blasted, especially the Boston area. The storm just blew through Wisconsin. We got 12 inches, with another foot of drifting and 35mph winds. The snow plows didn't come though until 1PM, and by 2pm it was sunny, just like that! I blew through the snow with no problems. I was loosing traction going up hill, so I locked both wheels and it dug right in. This is one of those times that I was glad to have a 2 stage. Let us know how everything is going in the northeast

Hey you guys be careful out there too. Remember, if you get tired and or too cold, it doesn't have to be done all at once. Bad things happen when one of those two things goes without any heed taken.

Still snowing in New Jersey and reported snow fall is about 13 inches.  Snow is scheduled to continue until about noon.  Maybe another 2 or 3 inches to add.

It may not be Boston weather but I am happy to get this.  Looks like the single stage units have the day off.
