Where is the Snow?
Original Message   Jan 18, 2005 2:02 pm
Has anyone been getting any significant snow besides Hickster in Alaska? Where is it?

If this keeps up much longer, deals on snowblowers are to be had.

Hi Marshall. Not much in NE PA this year. 1 or 2 inchers except for the Slush storms that melted away. The cold weather finally hit this week with daytime temps in the teens or 20's and single digits at night. This morning the weatherman said we could have a snow event Sunday. I'm getting the part for my recoil starter tomorrow, so I should be ready to go. If it's like this one, I better be.   LOL

I'm seeing snow as forcasted for Sunday too.  Very cold here.  Maybe 1 and a half inches here tonight. Then I'll wait for Sunday.  Something should come of this.

I think we got as much snow as most in the eastern states so far.  We had our pre-Christmas storm that left us with 12inches (16-20 inches just NW of us).  Then it got warm..................local weather guy said last night, that we NW of Columbus had over 10.5 inches of rain in the first 15 days of 2005.  (Remember my flood pics at WTB?) Man if that had all been snow, I think we would have definately won the eastern snow title!.  We did get about 3 more inches Sunday , so it is white and very cold around here again. Currently 12 deg. F/  was -3 F last night.

Well from a dusting too 2" predicted here in the Boston area tomorrow, or tomorrow night. Then they said it depends on a storm coming up from the south along the coast line, and depending how close it comes to the coast we could be in for a pretty bad "Nor' Easter starting Saturday night, Sunday and into Monday morning...

Ever see the Maytag commercial with the old repairman sitting at his desk tapping his fingers waiting for a call/job? That's how I feel. The little Honda's been prepped and ready since November and yet nada! Oil's changed, everything's lubed, fresh stabilized gas, new coat of wax, parked by the garge door..... and yet.... where's the snow?

Last winter we had our first snowstorm (5 inches or so) here in central Jersey by the first weekend of December. Then just about 4 inches or more almost every weekend after. This winter's been a dusting to an inch here and there. Nothing to sink little red's teeth into. Come on!

And know what? I'm not looking for a piece of wood to knock on nor am I keeping my fingers crossed. Bring it on... d*mn it!!!! Enough already! Stop with the teasing!

Of course now that I just tuned into the weather channel, they are saying that there may a significant storm this weekend the way things are brewing at this point. Sweet!!!!

Usually be this time of year we have had at least a couple of big storms.  Not one yet this year.  Just 2-4 inchs of pure annoyance.  We almost had a green Christmas here.  Down in the valley they did.

I am going to have to do something unusual like daring it to snow or going na na na na na you can't get me LMAO.....

I am afraid to though because I have been spanked so bad in the past lol....

Marshall man you nailed it, those prices are dropping.

Two stroke bottle of oil?  That's sacrilegious! Nothing but four stroke for me.

Just my luck... if I do get a stroke down the road (in about 25 years I hope) it'll be four limbs that are affected instead of two.. Either way, take me out back and shoot me...please!

Robmints, it's good to be missed. As long as I don't owe you any money. ;-)

Actually, we're not getting that much so far this year.  Oh sure, everything is still white and snow covered, but not much in the way of new snow. It's been hovering between -10°f at night to 15°f or so during the day. I did use the blower this last weekend... to blast out a trail to get the trailer out. Loaded up the quads and went for a trail ride. I really wanted to by a sled but at this rate...

oh well, it's still early!

We had an Alberta clipper roll thru and left about 2" of semi-wet stuff this am, another clipper is coming thru tonite and we expect about the same, and then a more serious storm is due in Sat/ Sun.  We'll keep our fingers crossed.   Taking my youngest tobogganing outside of Cleveland this weekend, should be fun!

Ah yes, finally a probable test of the Toro. A major snow event for this weekend for Eastern PA. I am looking forward to it but I just hope it doesn't screw up the Eagles game.

You would normally think inclement weather would favor the northern team, especially at home. But can you imagine trying to tackle the Atlanta quarterback in the snow, when he knows where he is going? The iggles might be in for a surprise on the way to the dance.

Andy Reid might be more experienced and a really good coach, but I think Mora is a real good fit for his team.  Like his team, he is young, confident, competent, and loose. And the Falcons have what it takes to win, a real good defense. People talk alot about McNabb, but it might be Westbrooke that needs to carry the load. Never go against the boys in Vegas, but 4 1/2 sounds like alot. I sure hope Philly isn't counting on another fourth and 26.

Yesterday and today have been really weird. We have been getting alot of wind lately and when we go outside it is warm! Very strange. The wind felt like it was in the 50's when it should be in the 30's or less! What the heck is going on?

We've had a bunch of 2-4" "storms" but not a serous working storm yet. Kinda scary, the ocean is about a month behind schedule in cooling off too.

Plans are to take one of my singles out for a workout.   This may be one of the few chances I get this season.

Did you break in the 3650??   If so, how did it compare to your other Toros?

Hello Everyone:

Today we are going to get up to 16" of Lake Effect Snow!!  At least that is what the National Weather Service is calling for.  We officially have 24" on the ground that has come in the form of 6-10" events.  At least we broke the cold spell that has been on the news this week.

HAPPY BLOWING!!!!

Emmo:

I tried using the 3650 but the snow was way too light.  I was getting covered in snow because the R tek was just blowing the snow all over the place.

Switched to the CR20 which was much happier and kept the blowing to a minimum.

This weekend if we get the 6-12" I do plan on an informal Snow Commander vs. 3650 comparison test.

so far this season we have had over three feet of snow on my hill here in northern jersey...

this however required my piling the piddling dustings we have had in to a  pile.

the weather folks are toying with us by "forecasting" 6+ inches this weekend, we will see.

Wow, it's great to have nice toys to play with in these predicted storms.  Saw me, that kind of snow is coming real soon.  8-12" expected here, but if the coastal currents behave we could see...how about that...more!    It's a good thing that more people living in PA are joining this forum, as it is great to hear about their experiences.  Let's hope more is to come that 1'.  WOW!!

Environment Canada's Official Weather Warnings

Warnings

St Johns and vicinity
10:51 AM NST Saturday 22 January 2005

Blizzard warning for
St Johns and vicinity continued

Near zero visibilities in snow and blowing snow are expected to spread throughout the above regions today. Visibilities will improve overnight as the bulk of the snow moves offshore and winds gradually diminish.

An intense low pressure system southeast of Newfoundland will track northward today to lie east of the Avalon Peninsula. Total snowfall amounts of 25 to 35 centimetres is expected over the Avalon Peninsula with lesser amounts to the west. Strong northerly winds gusting anywhere from 70 to 100 km/h will develop by this evening. These winds combined with the falling snow and cold temperatures will give near zero visibilities in blowing snow and give blizzard conditions to the Avalon and east coast. Conditions will improve overnight as the snow ends and winds diminish.

Strong northerly winds will combine with cold temperatures over northern and central sections tonight to give extreme wind chill values near minus 35.
