Warnings St Johns and vicinity 10:51 AM NST Saturday 22 January 2005 Blizzard warning for St Johns and vicinity continued Near zero visibilities in snow and blowing snow are expected to spread throughout the above regions today. Visibilities will improve overnight as the bulk of the snow moves offshore and winds gradually diminish.  An intense low pressure system southeast of Newfoundland will track northward today to lie east of the Avalon Peninsula. Total snowfall amounts of 25 to 35 centimetres is expected over the Avalon Peninsula with lesser amounts to the west. Strong northerly winds gusting anywhere from 70 to 100 km/h will develop by this evening. These winds combined with the falling snow and cold temperatures will give near zero visibilities in blowing snow and give blizzard conditions to the Avalon and east coast. Conditions will improve overnight as the snow ends and winds diminish.  Strong northerly winds will combine with cold temperatures over northern and central sections tonight to give extreme wind chill values near minus 35.
