HD DVD and Blu-Ray

High Definition DVD players come in two varieties…HD DVD and Blu-Ray. They both give clear viewing on your new hi-def TV.

Unfortunately these players are not compatible with each other and you can’t mix them (remember beta vs. vhs?).  If you want to take a look at the HD-DVD, Toshiba’s HD-A1 player is a good place to start.

The HD-A1 is the HD-DVD format and on the shelves right now. If you are dying for this hi-def experience, plan on a big boy. The A-1 is two times as high and heavy as your standard DVD player and takes at least a minute to power up (with an annoying whine) before you can put in a disc. If you can wait that long, you will love the picture clarity of details…details that appear indeterminate with standard definition. Drops of water glisten, blades of grass are sharply delineated on this player.

I just did a quick internet search and found you can purchase an HD-A1 player for just over $400. It may be worth it for your viewing pleasure.
