Title: Central Vacuum Systems Post by Ron on 02/12/01 at 1:17am Vacuflo built-in central vacuum system has been showing to me as the best system. Does anyone have experience? How would you rate various systems? Thanks for anyones's advice. |
Title: Re:Central Vacuum Systems Post by Greg Melancon on 02/15/01 at 2:05am Hi Ron, Sounds like you've been talking to a vacuflo dealer. (Most sales people brag that they have the best!) There are many central vacuums on the market today and at varible prices. Compare apples with apples. The price is considerably higher when you're placeing the central in an already established building. Make sure the CFM (cubic feet per minute) is over 100 for starts. The system with bags have better filtration (even tho it's in the garage) and less messier to empty. (Just check pricing on bags before you buy - some bags are expensive). Also make sure the power head has the options that will benefit you in the long run. Most people perfer the direct connect (the vacuum hose WITH electrical outlet together rather than the outlet in one with a pigtail to plug in). Some systems are plastic and some are metal. The metal ones are coated so that even if you live where there is high humidity -- it will not rust. One other point -- make sure the installer is Certified by the VDTA (Vacuum Dealer Trade Association) for best results. Good Luck! Greg |
Title: Re:Re:Central Vacuum Systems Post by Ron on 02/15/01 at 3:40pm Thanks Greg. Yes I visited a dealer who cared Beam, Nutone, Vacuflo, and I think one other. He gave Vacuflo high marks. We have built two previous new homes and are relocating again, and of course, builting new again. We have had Fasco and Nutone, and liked the fact of central vacuum systems. Only draw back we had previously was the weight of the hose, plus length, and the fact we had to plug in the power head separately. With the uprights coming out with the "windtunnel" concept, I thought Vacuflo may be a better system. I am not impressed with the carpet beater, but it has a different concept with spaced brushes. Looks can be decieving. It looks like this web forum is mainly dealers, who will have personnal benefits on selling what they carry. Was hoping I could get some good feedback on all the various brands. I am not too concerned with filtration, since the unit will exhaust outside the house and garage, so not sure a bag is critical. I appreicate your comments on the capacity. Anyother comments are still welcome. We are about 30 days from needed to give the go ahead and the make. |
