Hi Tabatha: If you could supply a little more information on what your vacuum preferences are, I might be able to direct you better to the ideal machine for your purposes.
Do you like canisters or uprights. If you read the forum here, you will probably note that I tend to lean towards canisters because of their superior suction, air flow and versatility. Your present machine is probably "choking" up because of poor air flow. Or it may be as simple of a problem as not changing the dust bag or filters frequent enough. Or maybe the brush roll belt is worn or broken. Many lower priced machines you buy at stores like K-Mart, Walmart and similar stores, are low quality and don't have the air flow needed for your purpose. What is your price range? How much carpet in relation to bare floors do you have? With a little more information, I may be able to suggest "your" ideal vacuum.

I would reccomend the Hoover wind tunnel bagless it is the best vacuum cleaner i have ever owned,i have a cat that constantly sheds and when i brought the wind tunnel home i vacuumed the carpet with my old vacuum cleaner, [it was a hoover power max upright], and i went over the same spot again and it pulled a ton of hair out, plus it has a hepa filter, and a powered hand tool and it is very quiet and has a 30 foot cord and it never gets clogged, you can buy one for around 290$ got mine for 279$

Thanks for your help. With so many options out there I just want to be sure I am getting the best one for my needs. I currently have two large dogs, two cats, and a bird. Of course with all these animals, spring is a fun season for sheding.
I am partial to uprights, but I am open to anything that works. I have 1500 sq feet and about 80% is carpet. I also have carpeted stairs. I use my current vacuum for going over the furniture for cat hair and such. My current machine (Dirt Devil Vision) runs for about 10 minutes and then shuts down do to clog, which is usually found in the hose, or the top of the bagless entry way. I end up taking the thing apart to unclog it more than I actually vacuum. I am looking for something from the $100-250 range, maybe a little more for a worthy investment. Thanks again for your help.

Sharp TU-5907

Hi Tabatha. I would suggest checking out the Sharp TU-5907. This machine is built very well and has a metal floor plate. Check it out at the link below. The machine has a high quality Lamb built dual-fan motor that is "repairable". More and more machines these days are built to throw away when they break. For the price, I think you'll be more than pleased with its suction and quietness. It has a variable motor speed control to control the power from 12 to 6 amps, for cleaning scatter rugs. The brush roller automatically adjusts to your carpet type and you can use it on bare floors. The cord is 35' in length. When you try this machine compared to what you are using now, you won't believe the difference. Good luck.
