Miele USA is selling vacs _online_!

A big surprise when visiting the Miele USA site was that they offer the option to either find a dealer, or buy the vacs from Miele __direct__.

So I chose a vac (one of the S5 series), walked through the first few pages to where the Web shop agent asked me where I lived, and lo, there was a list of USA states shown.
At that point I stopped, knowing this was indeed for real.
The Web price was similar to what a dealer would have charged.

Wot da Heck?

I've also seen Mieles recently crop up in Bed Bath and Beyond (so far only the S4, Powerhouse and stick brooms)

Hi Vac-O-Matic,

I checked out the Miele USA site and it's nice that you can buy direct, but to what avail? I am interested in the Miele Capricorn but will not pay $1,149 for it. That's way too much.

There is a nice price on a new Capricorn on eBay for $875 with free shipping. Though still beyond reasonable price, as long as the seller proves reuptable by way of feedback, this is a far better deal for the person who just must have Miele. As well, it's probably still far more worth it to attempt to get around hte price lock up by bargaining one-on-one with a local Miele dealer. The chance of price relief is probably good.

Miele, to my mind, still pulls in a lot of money off myth but I guess you can't really refer to what the company does as leading the public down the primrose path since the sheep being slaughtered are all too willing.

I have seen the newer Mieles and they definitely seem to have been cheapened in various ways - thinner plastics, simpler hose connection, etc.
Yes, they are overpriced. Perhaps some day a cannister maker will decide to offer a reasonably priced model with a quiet motor (it's not __that__ hard to do!) , and filtrette bags. To date, I don't know of any.
