Doing the Wheelchair Rock

Technology is working to help the wheelchair bound get around more efficiently in the future. The idea is that a set of movements could be programmed as commands for the digitized wheelchair to execute. If a quadriplegic can only move their head or shoulders, specific movements, detected from sensor enmeshed clothing could used to that one would wear clothing made from special fabric with sensors to detect fine scale movement such as a subtle rocking of the shoulders.

Currently there are wheelchairs to accommodate certain movements, but the paraplegic must adapt to the wheelchair. With this nascent effort, the wheelchair bound is the determining factor. Don’t you just love technology?
