Bottom line on washing machines...
With a lower initial price and generally more than adequate cleaning ability, a top loading washing machine will more than likely meet your needs, but, over the long haul, will cost extra in energy and water usage.
The front loader is more energy efficient and quieter with a larger laundry capacity, but carries a higher MSRP and potential stress on the lower back.
