Dyson vacuum & other vacuum related videos & photos...
Original Message   Nov 22, 2007 12:23 am
1)  Nov 21, 2007 James Dyson t.v. commercial parodied on Saturday Night Live.

2)  March 17, 2009:  While many independent vacuum dealers bad-mouth, lie of and/or dismiss James Dyson and his teams contributions, many others champion the man.  Watch James Dyson in his element - in his Malmesbury Headquarters.  NBC’s “Today Show”  http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?mkt=en-us&vid=71fa9222-10d2-413c-bf31-0007895697ac

2)  Older video news:  I could not resist...  A Hottie car-news chick mentions the rumor of Dyson working with car makers, and Oreck gets a mention too (funny).

HS is correct.  There is a DC07 Red and it is a Target exclusive.  It is primarily the same as a DC07 All Floors, just in Target's colors.

Like I said, it's the normal course of business.  The DC07, to answer Matt, stayed the course not because of its popularity.  It's not that good for rug cleaning.  Evidence: Kapoc rug test and less than mediocre Consumer Reports ratings especially for carpet cleaning.

There's just so many DC07 and 14-s that were made and sold to big box retailers that are still on shelves and warehouses unsold after 6 years.  Plus, dyson adding new models every year competing for sales with all of these old models.

The reason Wal*Mart never carried the dyson line.  But reluctantly agreed to exclusive models which struck out 2 times, 3 if you count the DC07 All Floors.  Not because Wal*Mart, the largest US big box retailer, didn't want the latest and greatest.  It did.  But it wanted to discount the old models to make room.  Dyson had a hissy fit.  And Wal*Mart kicked dyson out.  At least until dyson gravolled back.

The prices on these new DC07-s are dropping fast as well in the USA.  So are their refurbs.  And as you would expect, there are alot of dyson DC07 refurbs.

Hello Carmine,

Can you tell us (me) the Walmart "kicked" Dyson out story (year and month if possible).  Walmart shafting vendors is common place, so how do we know Walmart simply did not give Dyson the shaft too?        DIB

It's also out of stock.  And it doesn't say "temporarily."  It's not listed on the current TARGET Site with dyson vacuums and parts.  Neither is the DC14 Drive.  What happened to the red DC07 and DC14 Drive at TARGET?  Both scrubbed by TARGET?

Sure.  WM had the DC07 All Carpets as an exclusive.  It had a $359 MSRP.  Probably the best dyson ever made and sold in the USA.  For whatever reason it was scrubbed.  Maybe lack of sales.  Then WM got the DC07 All Floors.  WM discounted it on sale for $319 during one of its price roll back sales.  This typically was the roll back price for the All Carpets.  So from WM's thinking it was okay.

Dyson scoffed.  WM thumbed its nose at dyson and basically said like it or lump it.  Dyson fussed and had a hissy fit.  WM said sayonora to dyson and kicked them out.  Can't recall the exact time.  Maybe Spring/Summer 2005.  Matt can say for sure, I'm sure.

From my perspective, the shaft was from dyson.  Why?  Dyson grovelled and a new deal was struck.  The DC07 Original: A WM exclusive.  MSRP of $379.  Problem was it only had a 2 year warranty while all the other retailers' dysons [including the DC07's  for $399] had 5 years.  It didn't sell.  People went to other WM competitors and spent the other $20 for the DC07 with a 5 year warranty.  Like BBB and LNT and then used the 20 percent off the $399.

Ironically, the WM DC07 Orignal is being sold now for $320.  And dyson isn't saying anything to WM about the price reduction.  Fry's is selling the DC07 All Floors for $299.  As well as other retailers.  No gripes from dyson.

Hello Carmine D

The DC07 may not have been popular in the US (I can't say!) other say differently, I would of thought it was for it to be still on sale in the US!  What I can say is it was very popular in the UK, probably because of it's very powerful suction for one!

Carmine,

Thanks, I think.  2005 is the year Hoover came out with the Fusion, which Dyson claims infringed on their dual cyclone patent/s.  According to a lawyer representing Dyson at the Dyson v. Hoover trial, “The company (Hoover) was under ``extreme'' pressure to provide a new model to Wal-Mart Stores Inc., one of Hoover's biggest customers.”  Hoover answered with their so-called “No Loss of Suction” vacuum - the Fusion.  In fact and very telling of WM’s dishonesty (or as they say "It's just business."), long after NAD told Hoover not to advertise the Fusion as a No Loss vacuum WM continued advertising the bunk No Loss claim on their online Fusion page.  Dyson got screwed twice (by Hoover and WM) IMO.        DIB

Linens-n-Things got the best of dyson.  Dyson came down hard on Wal*Mart for selling DC07-s with an MSRP of $399 on a roll back sale for $319 [20 percent discount].  LNT and BBB sell them for $320 for years and years as the normal course of business and get a pass.  Why?  Isn't dyson holding WM to a higher standard than BBB and LNT?

Dyson is suing LNT now for non-payment.  Stand in line.  Dyson will be lucky to get pennies on the dollar in 10 years from now.

Dyson should have given the pass to WM and held LNT and BBB's feet to the fire.  If dyson did, you would see more of the dyson vacuums in Wal*Mart stores.  Not just one upright model intermittently over the last 6 years [and soon to be no more].

Dyson needed Wal*Mart to bring the 10 percent market share in the USA up.  Wal*Mart didn't need dysons to be the top retailer in 2008.  Best in profit.  Best in stock price.  Best in stock dividend to share holders.  In an economic slow down in the USA.  That will probably continue for 1-2 more years.  All the while not one dyson will be sold off a WM shelf.  That is hurting dyson sales in the USA and will for the next few years.

Are you serious in saying that WM does not carry Dyson in their stores?

Yet the WalMart website continues to carry the full Dyson line and even shows them as their best sellers.  Are you sure they won't be sold in stores or is it just your opinion?

Wal*Mart and dysons for you menshckins.  Most of the dyson models WM carries must be purchased through the internet site if customers order.  By shipping to the store of choice free or paying shipping costs.  The dyson models are not stocked on the WM shelves save one and that dyson is getting rare to find on shelves.  The exclusive DC07 Original.

The WM dyson exclusive Original DC07 MAYBE available on some store shelves.  This is the dyson that was part of the kiss and make up agreement between dyson and WM.  The WM Web Site admonishes shoppers to check the store location for availablilty.  The exclusive dyson agreement between WM and dyson expired.  Not renewed.  Why?   I answered that already.  2 year warranty for $379 on the DC07 Original.  5 year warranty for $320 on the DC07 All Floors.  Dah?  Which would you buy? IF you have $300 for a vacuum and are shopping at WM/big box stores for a vacuum?  It's a  hard one so think before you answer.  Here's a clue:  Fry's is currently selling the new DC07 for $289 with a 5 year warranty.  And many other retailers too.
