Dyson vacuum & other vacuum related videos & photos...
Original Message   Nov 22, 2007 12:23 am
1)  Nov 21, 2007 James Dyson t.v. commercial parodied on Saturday Night Live.

2)  March 17, 2009:  While many independent vacuum dealers bad-mouth, lie of and/or dismiss James Dyson and his teams contributions, many others champion the man.  Watch James Dyson in his element - in his Malmesbury Headquarters.  NBC’s “Today Show”  http://video.msn.com/video.aspx?mkt=en-us&vid=71fa9222-10d2-413c-bf31-0007895697ac

2)  Older video news:  I could not resist...  A Hottie car-news chick mentions the rumor of Dyson working with car makers, and Oreck gets a mention too (funny).

HS and dyson defenders:

Read VF's account of the DC-07.  Sounds like the same stuff MOLE and I have said for years.  Where's the debate against his critique?  Given up the fight?  Facts are against you.  Hence DC07 and DC14 are on clearance sales among retailers and soon to be dumped by dyson.

I have to assume you are talking about the smell since you and mole have criticized everything about the Dyson.

Bagged vacuums are no different with regards to retaining odors.  They require a new bag to eliminate odor.  Dyson requires dumping the bin to rid odors.  It is more economical to dump a bin than to replace a bag after vacuuming ol Rover's shedding hair.

Oreck offers scented tabs to control odor. All one has to do is vacuum up some scented potpouri (or similar product) with a Dyson.  Same effect.

Actully baking soda will help control odors.  My bet is that the previous owner of vacuumfreaks Dyson was trying to accomplish this with kapok.

Why is discontinuing a model such a hot topic of conversation?  Every manufacturer in every category discontinues models all the time.  GM scrubs 2007 models when the 2008's are ready.  Apple discontinues macbooks and ipods.  Hoover discontinues models.

Why are we being critical of a model that is being discontinued after almost 6 years?  Doesn't the longevity just show its popularity?

Very good point Airblade!  Everyone else does it!  I've had my DC07 for nearly 7 years and the basic model is still available in the UK too!  I believe the DC07 and DC14 are very popular Dyson models in the UK!

DC18:

In the USA maunfacturers build in a 7 year useful life before the household appliances become obsolete.  No rational person doubts and/or denies that models are discontinued.  I'm surprised it's taken dyson this long.  I suspect the unforeseen take back on the boat load of WM dysons had something to do with it.  Can't leave Best Buy stores holding the bag on all these unsold DC07-s while it and retailers are bailing out of them.

But, it appears that one poster in particular here denies that the DC07 and DC14 are getting scrubbed by dyson and all its retailers.  Continues to post otherwise.  As though dyson will manufacture ad infinitum.  When he does post, I rebut that dyson is discontinuing the DC07 and DC14 and so are its retailers.  Maybe, now that he's heard it from a dyson source Matt mmc Airblade he will stop posting that dyson continues to make and sell these models.  Maybe not.

Thanks again Matt mmc for the unsolicited clarification.

I can quite believe the Dyson DC07 will be discontinued, like I said we only have the base model DC07 here in the UK on sale at a very low price in some shops.  It's been like this a while now so I can see it being dropped completely soon!  I wouldn't be surprised if the DC14 gets replaced by another model soon and the DC14 will be dropped.

Hey DC18:

Like I said, it's the normal course of business.  The DC07, to answer Matt, stayed the course not because of its popularity.  It's not that good for rug cleaning.  Evidence: Kapoc rug test and less than mediocre Consumer Reports ratings especially for carpet cleaning.

There's just so many DC07 and 14-s that were made and sold to big box retailers that are still on shelves and warehouses unsold after 6 years.  Plus, dyson adding new models every year competing for sales with all of these old models.

The reason Wal*Mart never carried the dyson line.  But reluctantly agreed to exclusive models which struck out 2 times, 3 if you count the DC07 All Floors.  Not because Wal*Mart, the largest US big box retailer, didn't want the latest and greatest.  It did.  But it wanted to discount the old models to make room.  Dyson had a hissy fit.  And Wal*Mart kicked dyson out.  At least until dyson gravolled back.

The prices on these new DC07-s are dropping fast as well in the USA.  So are their refurbs.  And as you would expect, there are alot of dyson DC07 refurbs.

Everyone but you said it was the normal course of business.  If the DC07 is not popular how has it been a top seller for 6 years ?  No other vacuum has as many positive consumer reviews. It has been the standard by which you have compared every vacuum for years.

Yes. Kapok, the most common thing vacuumed in our homes.  No way is there a 6 year old vacuum on the floor or in the warehouse of a big box retailer.  They would quit ordering after the first year and transfer them to stores where they are selling.  Do you think the bought a 6 year supply?  Do you think that Target would continue to sell the red DC07 if they had DC07's in stock for years?

I suppose that you have inside info on WM being reluctant to sell Dyson.

HS:

Settle down.  Have a cup of joe.  Your facts are all jumbled up.  DC07 Red at TARGET?  Do you mean pink?

I never said a 6 year supply.  Are you delusional?

I said after 6 years retailers still have purchases of DC-07's made years ago sitting unsold.  Why?  Dyson.  MAP and MSRP have caused the sales to languish especially as new dyson models were launched.

It's caught up with dyson and its retailers.  Just like the pros said.  Now these old dyson models and new models are being dumped by US retailers.  Along with the refurbs.

I have more information about Wal*Mart and dyson than most here and I've shared it many times.  Save Matt who knows but can't say.  And other retailers.  Do you have any specific questions?  Warning:  The information doesn't paint a pretty picture for dyson ahead.  US retailers are very worried about the political conditions in Malaysia.  As well as economic conditions here.  In fact, so is the US government about the former and should be about the latter.

BTW, as far as dyson is a top seller?  Dyson claims 10 percent of the USA new vacuum market in the USA with 2 MILLION.  That's not top in the USA.  Not even close.  It had 8 percent in 2004.  Not much increase.
