Dyson's on HSN
Original Message   Mar 6, 2008 2:46 pm

Dyson is launching their new vacuums on HSN this (Saturday, pacific time), Sunday.

  • When:  (Saturday) Sunday (on and off) all day/evening – check “Program Guide” here (all times are Eastern).
  • Dyson will have their dedicated time slots/shows and in addition, Dyson/s are the "Today’s Special".
  • For our UK Dyson friends…
    • The show streams live on HSN’s website.  Click > “Watch HSN Live” on right side of front page.   Shows are archived for viewing as well.
    • I’m told per HSN that Dyson/s will be the “Today’ Special” and shown throughout the day.  Look for the Dyson rep – Dave Shimkus’ under “guest name” for show times.

Acerone and DC18, I am glad I took the trouble to post.  I am hoping to see more than the DC24 and DC25, either way I will be watching.        DIB

Re:  My posting of new Dyson’s launching on HSN.

I must sincerely apologize, I was wrong.  Typically in the past when I would call HSN, they would (without hesitancy) inform me as to what Dyson models were to be televised and sold ahead of time.  I recently called HSN and asked if the new DC24 or DC25 were going to be launched.  They said, “They cannot say.”  I took this to mean “yes”.  HSN and Dyson having a DC14/Carpet Kit sale on the eve of the DC24 and DC25 launching at retail never occurred to me.        DIB

For the pro Dyson guys and for the talk nasty of Dyson guys, here’s how Dyson’s sold on HSN today.

.

Dyson DC14 Animal sold with extras, $439.00 w/ free ship, 5 flex pay.  9000 vacuums sold (out) in l0 hours as a “Today’s Special”.

.

Dyson DC18 Slim sold with extras, $479.00 w/ free ship, 5 flex pay.  450 vacuums sold in 10 minutes and about 1100 total sold in 1 hour.  When the DC14 vacuum sold out the DC18 went on sale for the last Dyson airing (10 minutes in length).        DIB

DIB:

Several points of interest to note [I saw the 2nd 30 minute pitch on Sunday.  I presume there was one also on Saturday and then another on Sunday from the talk]:

The DC14 Animal is a clearance item.  As dyson Dave said this model will no longer appear on HSN [although he and Kali implied that there may be other DC14's for sale in the future.  Read less expensive but they didn't say]:  Hence the low price for the DC14 Animal with all the extras:  DC14 Animal with the Zorb and applicator, and the turbine tool and floor/rug low rise tool.  As they said, regularly a $599 value for $439.  This puts pressure on the retailers who still have the standard DC14 models to discount below the $439.  Maybe significantly below.

Dyson Dave said that the pre-motor filter should be cleaned every 3-4-5-6 months.  No longer the 5-6 months.

Dave picked up the heavy stuff first: The Cat Litter with the hose.  Before he went to pick up the pet hair and coffee grinds, he did something key to the demo.  Did you catch it?  He removed the dirt bin and shook the container until all the cat litter settled evenly and was not covering any parts of the shroud.  At this point he sucked up the rest in the carpet [pet hair] and barefloor mode [coffee grinds].  Important step to prepare the vacuum properly to pick up the rest.  Most users wouldn't know and bother.  Changing the results drastically.

The rugs used for the demo were ALL low pile.  When Dave went to the other 3 demo rugs, very small sized areas too, and mentioned the rugs were different, he implied in height as in medium and high pile.  They weren't.  And they had no backing [matting].  The rugs were different styles of the same low height carpet.  At one point, you may have noted the ratcheting sound when Dave pressed the rug nozzle to the LOWEST pile rug.  It was not scripted.  Caught him and Kali by surprise.

The Dyson Animal package, “Today Special” ran Sunday – start: 12am eastern (9pm pacific) / sold out: 10:15pm eastern.

- The retail  price and package/sis  something I do not look at much.

- Dave Shimkus said had requests for an Animal as a “Today Special” and “This will be the only time you can buy an Animal as a Today Special.”  He never said a thing about this model or any other models  being discontinued.

- Was it truly a $600 dollar value?  I do no know.

Dyson Dave said that the pre-motor filter should be cleaned every 3-4-5-6 months.  No longer the 5-6 months.

Dyson’s multi-high efficiency filtration has not changed (07,14,15)  since Dyson launched in the US (they filter roughly alike), the guidelines in Truth in Advertising has not changed (I believe), (Dyson for 5 or so years has enjoyed passing this criteria, criteria perhaps set up long before Dyson launched in the US), it was organized attacks brought on by Hoover/Whirlpool U.S., Hoover UK and Oreck.  Personally, I believe Dyson has not done near enough to educate his consumers as to pre-filter cleaning.  Dave Shimkus on HSN yesterday did point out a new “Filter” sticker (blue and contrasting) on the handle/filter lid assembly.  I can only hope better, clearer, etc. pre-filter cleaning directions come with new Dyson’s.

Dyson needs to be cautious and play it safe by saying 3,4,5,6 months until pre-filter cleaning.  I have no trouble with this requirement, nor did it stop millions from purchasing the early dual cyclones.   Sucking up fine dust with no suction loss for up to 3,4,5,6 months is provable science and translates into money.  The Root + Core technologies in a cannister and later in an upright/s should stop the lawsuits and complaints to NAB and ASA (I thinik I have these acronyms correct).       DIB

I’ll pick up the remainder of the  conversation later.

Hello DIB:

I see my commentary has put you on the defensive.  Please note my response here.

You quoted me out of context and attributed a pretext to me.  I never used the word "discontinue" as you did.  [Just as you said MUST when the instruction book says should]  I use the word "clearance."  I believe the two are different words.

Why did I use clearance?  Dave and Kali said at the start of the TV sale that the DC14 ANIMAL will never again be offered on HSN.  Other dysons will but not the DC14 ANIMAL.  These are their words not mine.  I'm merely repeating them here.  You inferred "discontinue."  Kali and Dave also said SEVERAL times that they only had 10,000 DC14 Animals to sell and wished they had more.  Another reason, I used the word "clearance."

On several occasions, Kali said that the DC14 Animal without the extras is a $550 value.  With the extras she said it has to be at least a $599 value.  Her words not mine.

Since the DC07 Animal has an MSRP of $499, Kali is probably correct with the HSN price for the DC14 Animal with the extras as a $599 value.

When TV viewers see the DC14 Animal with the zorb, applicator, turbine tool and low rise rug/floor tool for $439, it puts pressure on retailers to drastically lower the prices of the existing DC07 and DC14 dysons that are still on their shelves.

Buyers have no problem with cleaning the pre-motor filter on a BISSELL Healthy Home every month either.  Which sells for $249, or half the price of the dysons AND is higher rated than the DC14 by Consumer Reports.  Since all the big box retailers sell the BISSELL Healthy Home, they have no problem with this requirement either.

Do me a favor, if you would, go back and check the actual verbage on the dyson HSN TV ad.  Dave may have said 2-3-4-5-6 months.

DIB and others:

If I said anything untrue about the HSN dyson TV demo here on this public Forum, I then am at risk of legal action against me by both dyson and HSN.  I welcome it.

Discontinue would be better than clearance.

To never be on HSN again is closer tho discontinued than clearance on the show.

If a vendor could sell more than he has in inventory how in hell do you get cledarance.  Clearance is associated with getting rid of overstocks..

Thanks Hardsell.  Talking to Carmine is exausting.  His account/s of what Dave and Calliie said on HSN and what they actually said are to differnt things, all the while he is parsing my one word misquote.  Callie is easy on the eyes for sure, but watching this show again to disprove/prove Carmine is not time well spent.        DIB
