Finincial Dear Abby
You may have visions of a worry free retirement, but you may want to do a little homework and get some good advice now, before you are faced with the reality. In fact some of the major investment companies are willing to dole out that advice for free.
Charles Schwab is one company that sees an advantage in playing a financial Dear Abby. Look for someone that first of all has the credentials of a certified financial planner and some five years of experience under the belt.
And while this advice is free, make sure your advisor doesn’t take commissions on any of his/her recommendations. You can imagine if there are lucrative commissions involved you will get steered to those investments whether they are of value to you or not. You want to know you are getting decent advice, not feathering your advisor’s retirement portfolio.
Once you get the advice, and have chosen a plan, keep checking up on it for performance. Don’t stick with a fund or investment that is not performing for you.
