Re: What does Tecumseh change to yield 11HP from the same block as the 9HP Snow King?

about the only things that will effect hp or torque are,   parasitc loads   example once you start putting  blade adapters, pulleys, belts  etc  all these items will rob the unit of actual hp.  this is how briggs and stratton got into trouble.   the advertised a specific unit was 6 hp.......... now what the didn't exactly disclose was this was "raw"   meaning now parasitc load on it.  well someone   dyno'ed an engine and it was only 5 hp......  anyway  later

what are the model and spec numbers of both engines in question.    alot of the hp ratings have to with SALES .  some manufacturere dont want and 11 hp on thier equipment so tecumseh prints up a 9 hp decal.  it very well could be the same block but with out numbers its hard to tell.

this is how  the companies make there money....  im surprised no one on this forum has mentioned it in the past.  when you purchase a new machine " disassemble" and anti-seize stuff.  my small engine teacher here in minnesota worked for the polaris dealer and the upper people told him this exactly,  that this is how the make they money is selling parts later.    take briggs and stratton..... right now we are sellin g a 5hp vertical mower engine for $139.00.   2 yrs down the road from proper maintenance, i will sell him a new $40.00 carb plus gaskets and such.   get the point.

mfdufy,   what part is amusing to you.  the word or the fact that a sh@tload of people are going to loose thier jobs???  I have brand new 1400.00 toro snowblowers on my sales floor, which all have tecumseh engines on them.  How can i morally sell one, knowing replacement parts may not be available for them???    why dont you explain your answer a little for me  huh.....

Dear CPD Tecumseh Dealers,

By now many of you have received letters from Toro and Ariens announcing that Tecumseh Engine Division will no longer build engines after December 2008. This is true. We want you to know that CPD has inventory in our warehouses to keep you servicing and replacing engines for the unforeseeable future. CPD does not anticipate a reduction of services in the immediate future.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact John Hedges, Director of Sales and Marketing at (800) 364-7938.

We appreciate your years of dedication to CPD and Tecumseh and anticipate many more years to come.

Sincerely,
