Re: Two-Stage Snowblowers - Impact on Concrete Driveway and Exposed Aggregate
#1   Oct 8, 2008 5:31 am
One of my neighbours has a paved driveway. Nothing special, as is the neighbour, but he treats the driveway as if the second coming is expected to happen there. He uses a snowblower for fear that a plow will scratch it up. Although I've no use for the man, he did come up with an ingenious method to keep from scratching his driveway. He took an old white plastic cutting board and cut little strips out of it. He bolted/screwed them on the bottoms of his skids and heated them up to bend them to the curve. Something like that might work in your case too.

Just a thought.

Re: 1987 Toro 521 Belt Adjustment ?

On my machine, there are two "fingers" that are on opposite sides of the top pulley. I believe their function is to keep the belt from contacting the pulley when the tension is off. When the tensioner is in the "off" position, the belt goes slack, and the two fingers keep the belt from wearing on the spinning pulley.

Can you post a picture or give a better explanation?

I live in the same area. I put an 11hp on what was a 7hp machine, and have no regrets. I too have to do the end of my driveway 3/4/5 times each storm and it's nice not having to wait for it to chew up a mouthful before the next one comes.

Hi Richard

I had the same problem with a saw once. It's a high-end Stihl, and was doing the same thing that you describe. I took it into the saw shop under warranty, and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. It would run for 30-90 seconds and die as if starved for fuel. I thought there was improper venting to the tank or something, so I took it all apart. The problem turned out to be a tiny pin hole in a fuel line. It was allowing air to enter. Think of drinking with a straw with a hole in it. It was replaced and now it's fine.

Could be a number of things with your machine, just letting you know one possibility.
