Where will the condensation drain?

Air conditioners will take moisture out of the air. In assessing your need for a portable air conditioner, you need to know how you are going to empty the water that has been collected, usually more than 30 pints of water a day.

Some units have a place where a tube can be connected to continually drain condensation with the help of gravity. Others have a tank that is removable in order to be emptied and has an automatic shutoff when the tank is full to avoid an overflow. There are some new units that use "self evaporation". The water is whisked away along with the exhaust. In highly humid climates the system is inadequate for removing all the moisture and you are back to water tank emptying. There are some units that incorporate a pump to send the water outside instead of into a tank.
