Thanks Venson,

HOOVER UK is right to promote these aggressively.  I suspect they will be very huge sellers among cost conscious vacuum buyers on a budget.  May even catapult HOOVER UK vacuum sales to the lead and ahead of others.

Would anyone care to explain the physics of Air-Volution!  Let's see:  Is it Cyclonic and/or Centrifugal?  Maybe it's a Wind Tunnel?  None of the above?  Shucks, scrub the terms.  Does it pick up household dirt on all surfaces quickly and easily with no fuss and no bother so their users can get on with their daily lives?  Now, IMHO that's the real test of vacuums' success not just words/terms that change with time and usage.

The principle is similar to Dyson's Root Cyclone Technology, but instead of five or seven small cyclones (as on the Dyson uprights) or the ten or twelve as fitted to the Dyson cylinders, there are twelve small cyclones fitted to both the Hoover uprights and cylinders.

The Hoover blurb mentions something about balanced airflow, and seems to show the rising airflow being split into two streams to feed two small cyclones. I presume that the airflow is divided up before it gets anywhere near the small cyclones. Maybe there are six main airflows that are then each split two ways. Who knows?

Dysons on the other hand, have a central rising airflow that is then split seven ways, or whatever number of cyclones are fitted.

p.s. 'Windtunnel Technology' cannot be used on UK Hoovers: the technology is used on the UK Vax machines.

I haven't personally come across the machine on the UK market.

Certainly, the Roboclean name conjures up visions of a self-propelled robotic cleaner, but this appears not to be the case.

The machine does look remarkably similar to the Rexair models.

I suspect that Rexair/Rainbow US has licenced the designs to foreign market franchises, on condition that the Rexair/Rainbow name is not used; probably to prevent a backlash on the US company, should a particular country have problems marketing, etc.

I have, earlier this year, seen a similar air cleaner design advertised on one of our home shopping channels. It used water, to which a scent could be added. The lid contained a fan which sucked in the dirty air and passed it into the water. The water swirled about, in the glass container.

How long before the public figures out that MY-ELLIE is an overpriced panasonic????

JUST WONDRING

Nothing to do with Panasonic, whatsoever . This new design range of uprights, are Miele thoroughbreds. The shape of the bag compartment area takes its design cues from the cylinder cleaner range.

The agitator design is from Miele cylinder powerheads, with an enclosed agitator cavity. Panasonic use a different agitator design with those edge-wheel brushes and metal end plate covers, that allow too much air to skim over the surface of the carpet, and not enough air to be drawn through the carpet.

The motor will very likely be of the latest Miele 'Vortex' design. Panasonic have their own motors.

The bags are Miele; filters are from past Miele designs.

The hose design is different to Panasonic's.

And it will probably be made in Germany. Panasonics were originally Spanish made, and now made in China.

All-in-all, a totally dissimilar machine to the Panasonic cleaners.

INFORMATION: The correct pronunciation of Miele, is "Meal-a", with the 'a' sounding as in "apple".
