Since 1978, I still startup my snowblower in the summer twice a month for 5 minutes, I know it's not usual, but I've never had a problem with the carburator!!! A small amount os stabil in the tank is good too, because running the engine 5 minutes doesnt emtpy the tank. So thats how I do thing.

Yeah the clear makes the final touch, I found a new clear on the market recently , it' made by Krylon, it's call epoxy clear tough for outside use! It doesnt have a shinny look like laquer or others but it wont practicly not scratch...
