Re: The New Miele Upright Cleaner

Quickly used the top line Miele S7 yesterday. a few Quick thoughts
Quality feel
Vacs nicely (but I did not have a Synergy to compare head to head with)
It swivels very nicely as well.
Easy to thrust but a little heavy to pull back.
VERY LONG HOSE and it's not supposed to tip over when it is extended
Bags and Filters easy to change plus HEPA is the same as the canister
Premium price

Hi Carmine,as you already observed this trend has been going on for 4 years now, many insiders that you and I know have said this same thing, there is no distinct design differences, bagless, bagged, uprights, canisters, all little clones of each other.

The only companies that have held true to their tradition are AERUS/ELECTROLUX, KIRBY, AND REXAIR/RAINBOW, I would even throw in TRISTAR/COMPACT,Even a few imports have held true also, such as HENRY,SEBO IN THEIR UPRIGHTS[OTHER THAN THE FELIX] which the jurys still out on,The germans have seemed to sell out bosch/miele are almost the same,And the chinese stuff looks like they use the same set of blueprints and specs,

MOLE
The Simplicity Tandem Motor system, is in my opinion, pretty revolutionary.

I've been getting a few HH's in lately. Seems the weight of the machine and the push/pull loosen the handles and separate the contacts, causing the machine to turn off. I've noticed there is only one screw holding it. The problem could be solved with two screws to relieve the stress. I've been putting in a longer screw to fix them.

I'm looking for a new Lamborgini for around $38,000....
All kidding aside there aren't any Quality vacuums (with the requirements you are describing) available at $500. Simple fact. You MIGHT get lucky with a lesser machine and get the longevity you seek but I don't think any vac shop can HONESTLY back up that claim. That said let's move forward and you can decide from there. Besides price, your requirements are: New....Small/Lightweight.... Can handle a large Household... adjustable height powerhead... and will have longevity. My first suggestion would be the SEBO K series with the ET1 powerhead. You will have to spend about $750-$800 dollars. Next would be the Miele Callisto for $830. It would be heavier than the SEBO and it would not have the adjustable powerhead but it wold have a larger bag. Both are German made. The Chinese made Simplicity Verve gives you a lot for your money and will be around $550 -$800 depending where you by it. The retro Perfect Powerteam Canister is about $650+. We haven't sold any yet and other shops I talk with have had a few issues with them, including not starting right out of the box.
The amount of carpeting you have will kill the petit powerhead of the Riccar you mentioned. However, you might find a leftover Simplicity S24 (the Korean made predesessor to the Verve) for less than $550 though.
The Hoover is a bigger and heavier machine than you are looking for. Plus, if you are disappointed in the plastic of the Bosch....the Hoover AND the Eureka/Electrolux Oxygen might not be your choice.

Re: Hoover S3670 canister . . .

Well... We just got our shipment of the new Hoover S3670's and briefly...
I'm fairly impressed
It's a lot bigger than I thought and I see more resemblance to Simplicity than Miele. The wand is VERY much like the Simplicity as are the tools. It also has the same feel moving it around.
The plastic is MUCH better than the previous can (but still not top of the line).
I think Hoover UNDER PRICED it. I know the discounters will ruin it but I think it's a $400 plus can. So at the $325-$350 it's a winner. (Longevity and quality issues may change that)
One thing I didn't like was the neck of the PH which seemed cheaply made and I think might become the Achilles Heel. (Just My Opinion) and there is no release peddle.
The PH has that aggressive Hoover kick to it and when I plugged it in it was accidently turned on and scooted across the floor.
It has a lightweight Hepa Filter and I don't know if it is sold as a sealed system
Fit & Finnish give the impression (at least) of quality product both visually and tactile.
