Grease for old Toro 5/26 snow blower
Original Message   Jan 27, 2005 9:22 pm
I recently bought an old Toro 5/26 snow blower thats, I will guess to be 30 yrs old at least.  It's pretty well used but still  quite an impressive little machine.  I would like to know where the grease points are. There are a couple of threaded holes with set screws in them back at the impeller (a good place for grease fittings?)  And another threaded hole(with set screw)  up front  at  the  gearbox  for the barrel style auger.  help and advice would be greatly apreciated to keep this 5hp piece of history alive.  One more thing ...its friction drive and likes to run in reverse in 1st.

Hi...

Try contacting a local Toro dealer for help...

...or Toro... to get an owner's manual...

Welcome to the forum Gully!

It sounds as if your friction disk is out of adjustment. It is the vertical rubber edged wheel that contacts the metal drive disk when you depress the drive handle. Look at the bottom of your machine and move the gearshift from speed to speed. Notice that all of the forward gears put the friction wheel over the same half of the metal drive disk and if you select a reverse gear the friction wheel is positioned on the opposite side of the drive disk. Adjust so that all the reverse speeds are on the same side and all the forward speeds are on the opposite side.
