Stihl's Chainsaws Really Are Awsome!!!
Original Message   Jan 22, 2005 12:53 am
Check this out. This is Stihl's largest, meanest, and most powerful chainsaw out. 121.6cc engine! This chainsaw really cuts

While the Stihl 088 is impressive & a "Big Hoss", the smaller 066 is more commonly used as a felling saw, nowdays.

The main reason is that less old growth timber is cut nowdays and the trunk diameters are smaller.  I think more 088's are sold in Brazil & other SA countries where alot of the timber felling is still done by hand.

Currently, my brother & I have been working on a downed oak with 30" diameter trunks for firewood.  Our Stihl 044 & MS 440 mag with 20" bars are working out just fine.  With a 20" bar and a 30" trunk, wedges are necessary to keep the initial cut open while it is finished on the back side.

I agree with Nibbler - running an 088 would get me tired very quickly!

That sure is a big saw.  I guess you were just looking at it, and not actually buying it?

Cripes.... You imagine what that sucker could do to you if it kicked back?  I sure hope it has a good inertial chain brake on it.
