MTD Yard Machine Series 90000
Original Message   Jun 16, 2005 12:12 am
MTD Yard Machine 4.5 HP push mower with Series 90000 Briggs & Stratton engine. Purchased new several weeks ago and used about an hour, when it worked fine. Now it starts, runs a few seconds and then dies. I can go through the priming/starting procedure half a dozen times and it still doesn't start. Fresh gas added, oil level ok. The carburetor is attached to the top of the gas tank - I took it apart and the screens are clean and there are no visible deposits anywhere. It primes ok. Spark plug looks ok and there are no deposits on tip. Holes in gas cap are not plugged. There is a long tube that runs from the top of the carburetor to the engine, and a pipe cleaner encountered no blockages. What am I missing?

Check the air filter for a substance that looks like this:

Since this is only a 3 week old machine, it is still covered under warrenty.
Take it into your Briggs warrenty service center and the mechanic will know what to do about the problem.

Warm welcome to Colombia !

Maybe it's toooo hot there to run it ! ?  Is it used on an incline ? (gas can't get to the carb)... make sure enough gas is in it...

Dave...

Whether you think you can or you can't... you're right.

Check for small caliber bullet holes in the crankcase. (Loss of crankcase pressure.)
You may have ticked off the guy living next door and not realized your mistake.
