U Joints for Ariens snowblower shute crank
Original Message   Jun 4, 2005 7:24 am
I've put together the tractor unit for the 1970 Ariens I've been refurbishing.

The new Intek OHV engine interferes with the original crank, which was a straight rod. Other Ariens blowers use tow universal joints to change the angle. Only issue is they're about $25 each at the dealer.

Any reasonable alternatives? For $50 I can probably find an entire parts snowblower.

An old Craftsman 1/4 or 3/8 or even 1/2 inch drive universal and tac weld it.

Great ideas everyone .  One of the ujoints has to disconnect with a hitch pin (to drop the blower housing and change belts). So I'll try the McMaster Carr choice.

Got them today They're a lot more substantial than the OEM version, I might even replace the ones on our ST824.
