How to name a bike

The primary motorcycle buyer is male in gender. It’s no surprise then that motorcycle marketers aim specifically toward men. And when they come up with a name for their new model, it is mood evoking rather than product history based. It’s an image they are going for, with names like Discover, Heat and Zeus.

Motorcycles have become “aspirational” says one marketing head, and tells others about who you are, or would like them to think you are. Model names are trying to capture the male mind and spirit more than their intellectual side.

So before you manufacture your latest model two wheeler, I would hesitate before naming it The Pink, or Chess. Try the Grabber or Asphalt Chewer. Now there’s an aspirational name!
