Confusing #2
Original Message   Feb 10, 2005 8:08 am
I scroll down the discussions page and find a topic that I want to read.
After I read the topic and the reply's I hit the back button and
find myself back at the TOP of the discussions page. So I now
have to scroll down again to get to where I was last.

Is there any way that the site can remember what the last post was
and return you to that post. Not return you to the top of the page??

Thanks for your help.

Using quotes is the only way I know of at this point.

It's a catch 22. All of the new posts that people make are obviously at the top of the forum so, if we hit the back button and want to see if there are new posts to read, we would have to scroll back up evertime to check.

Hi...

Returning back to exactly where you were was eliminated by the site's "programmer"... some technical reason...

I asked about it a while back... I miss it too...

The reason is simple:

When you hit your back button, your browser is being instructed not to load the last page out of its cache. Actually, if all goes well, your browser should never have cached that page anyway.

Therefore, it literally reloads the page, which causes it to start at the top.

The reason for doing this is to make sure you are always looking at the most recent information. Disabling this could potentially mean that you are looking at an index of threads that is hours old. In such cases, people would complain how they're thread list is out of synch from time to time...
