Cell phones and the underage
Kids and cell phones are more and more a matched set. But parents need to know there are some rules their kids need to abide by in order to play it safe. I just found out about the ICE number…or “in case of emergency” number to call if necessary. Just program in a number with all the contact info and call it ICE so if your child has an emergency, someone will know who to call. And 911 is still a good bet for emergency help.
Although privacy seems to be a lost value these days, have your teen or child refrain from saying their number out loud in a crowd. There are always people looking to take advantage. And if someone does, show your kid how to block them and anyone else objectionable.
Remind your teen not to talk while driving. First of all it is a dangerous distraction and secondly it may even be illegal in your state. If they have to talk, tell them to pull over in a safe place, lock the doors and then talk. Cell phones are a great asset for your teen, but as with everything, some caveats can only help.
