Save gas - ride a bike!
Don’t be a grump at the pump…get psyched with a bike. For your short commute or shopping, get out your bicycle and save a few bucks. Just keep a few safety rules in mind. Remember that what applies to a car or truck, pretty much applies to you.
• A helmet is de rigueur.
• Keep to the right of the road and ride as close as you can to the right-hand curb or edge of the road.
• Obey traffic rules, signs, signals and markings. Yah, that red light means you too.
• Opt for a route with few cars, slow traffic and easy intersections.
• Watch out for the other guy…he most likely will not be watching out for you.
• Always stop and look left-right-left before entering the road.
• Go with the flow of traffic, not facing it.
• When riding with a friend ride single file.
• It’s a good idea to walk your bike at busy intersections…particularly when making a left turn.
• Use hand signals, and let everyone know what you are going to do.
