Recumbent bicycles

Recumbent bicycles are just plain funny looking but advocates of these low riders say they are as comfortable as all get out and once you try it you will be hooked. This is a recreational bike and not designed for rough terrain. But if you are just looking for some exercise around the neighborhood, recumbent fans say try it out.

They’re not cheap, running around $1600 at a bicycle shop compared to a $700 mountain bike. And they aren’t really new, with versions dating back to the 1800’s. But in the 1990’s they began to come back into style with claims of  a reduction in aching necks, back and shoulder muscles along with hand and bottom that you can get from a more traditional bike. And if you have a balance problem or are handicapped, these babies are just the ticket to more exercise.

If you have your standard bike in the garage and aren’t getting out there doing the exercise you bought it for, due to aches and pains when you get back from a short ride, consider the recumbent and get out and enjoy the experience.
